Carmel Convent School, Sector 9, Sacred Heart School, Sector 26 and Mount Carmel Convent Schoo, Sector 47 recorded easy victories on the opening day of the Chandigarh Sub-Junior Girls Football Championship for Dr Kamesh Bhargava Memorial Trophy being organised by the Chandigarh Football Association at the Sector 17 Football Stadium here today.
Carmel Convent handed out a 5-0 drubbing to Vivek High School Sector, Sector 37 in the inaugural fixture of the championship. Namrat Kochhar Geisingh engineered the facile win for Carmel the star striker struck three goals, two in the first half and one on crossing over.
Narmrat gave her team an early lead with a second minute goal. She herself doubled the margin in the 16th minute. Namrat struck her third goal in the 37th minute. Ekta Kochhar Geisingh adn Meghna Bhasin added one goal each in theh 25th and 45th minutes to the kitty of the winners.
Sacred Heart School of Sector 26 defeated Saupin's School of Sector 32 by 2-0. Trapping a through ball in the 10th minute, Savita dribbled her way into the box before unleashing a powerful shot. In the 25th minute, Manpreet tasted the Saupin's goalkeeper with a hot shot. Prerena pounced on the rebound and beat the Saupin's defence with a fine shot.
In the third match of the day, Mount Carmel of Sector 47 ousted the Banyan Tree School of Sector 48B by 3-0. A solo effort by Priyanka in the 19th minute helped Mount Carmel forge ahead. Namita and Richa contributed one goal each in the 27th and 32nd minutes to round of the winners' tally.
With St Kabir School, Sector 26 withdrawing from the tournament, Government Model Senior Secondary School of Sector 37 were awarded a walkover.
