Punjab begin with an impressive win

Hosts Punjab began their football campaign with a creditable 3-0 victory over Chattisgarh on the opening day of the inaugural National Panchayat Yuva Karida Aur Khel Abhiyan Tournament (Group-II) for boys and girls( under-16) at the Guru Arjan Dev Stadium, here today.
In another match Madhya Pradesh got the better of Tripura by 2-1. In other football matchse, Delhi scored a lone goal win over Arunachal Pradesh., Tamil Nadu defeated Goa by 2-0, Haryana beat Rajasthan by 2-0 and Jharkhand outplayed Uttar Pradesh by 5-2.
In volleyball matches for girls Haryana defeated Kerala 25-11, 25-12 and Tamil Nadu edged Uttar Pradesh by 26-24, 25-7.
Earlier, Punjab Sports & Youth Services Minister Gulzar Singh Ranike inaugurated the touranment.s many as 1500 players from 27 states and Union Territoreis from all over the country are competing in the tournamen.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Ranike inspired the participants to take part in sports in the true spirit of sportsmanship and keep themselves away from the drugs. He also announced that Punjab Government will give boost to sports through new policies. An Olympic gold medalist will get Rs. 1.00 crore and a gazzetted post in the Government. department.
Earlier Deputy Commissioner Khushi Ram welcomed the chief guest. Padma Shree Pargat Singh, Director Sports Punjab thanked the Sports Minister and raised hope that the policy "Panchayat Yuva Karida Aur Khel Abhiyan of Govt. of India, Ministry of Sports & Youth Affairs" will do a wonder in the villages which are the best feeder to the nation in sports.
The torch bearing ceremony was jointly performed by international thrower Kirpal Singh, Commonwealth gold medalist 400 m runner Inderjit Singh, Sukhjinder Singh, Navjot Kaur, Hardeep Singh, Randhir Singh, Kushbir Kaur took the oath on behalf of all the participants.
Results: Volleyball (girls): Haryana bt Kerala 25-11, 25-12, Tamil Nadu bt U.P. 26-24, 25-7.
Football (boys): Punjab bt Chattisgarh 3-0, Madhya Pradesh bt Tripura 2-1, Delhi bt Arunachal Pradesh. 1-0, Tamil Nadu bt Goa 2-0, Haryana bt Rajasthan 2-0, Jharkhand bt U.P. 5-2
