St John's, St Kabir, St Xavier's and St Stephen's in semis

St Stephen's School, Sector 45, St John's High School, Sector 26, hosts St Kabir School, Sector 26 and St Xavier's School, Sector 44 stormed into semi-finals of the Chandigarh State Under-13 Football Championship for St Kabir Trophy at the school premises here today.
Three quarter-final matches turned out to be one-sided affairs. However, the fourth quarter-final issue between St John's School and Ryan International School, Sector 49 was resolved on penalties. St John's clinched the semi-final spot with a 3-1 margin as the teams were involved in a goalless draw in the stipulated period.
Both teams were evenly matched. As the play was mostly confined to midfield the stipulated two sessions failed to resolve the goalless dispute. In the tie-breaker session, St John's emerged winners by converting three out of five spot kicks through Parseej, Ranshed and Sarfroj. Krishna and Chander muffed their penalties. For Ryan International School only Parbodh converted his penalty. Pranav, Gurjivan and Arshjot wasted their chances.
St Kabir School overcame the challenge of Vivek High School, Sector 38 by 3-0. The winners shot into the lead through Shivam Kanwar in the fifth minute. Amitoj Singh (30th) and Sanchit Bhudhiraja (40th) added one goal each to make the score look more impressive.
St Stephen's School took time to settle down to oust Doon International of Mohali by 3-0. Doon put up a good fight and kept their rivals blank till the 29th minute when they conceded their first goal which was scored by Sehraj Singh.
On resumpiton, St John's scored two more goals and the credit for scoring these went to Harpal Singh who struck in the 40th and 44th minutes.
In the fourth quarter-final, New Public School, Sector 18 failed to display their formed they had exhibited in their earlier matches. They were at the receiving end as St Xavier's School dominated the proceedings. In the one-sided match Xavier's-44 netted through Paramvir (11th), Rudra (14th), Mehtab (27th) and Sanyukt (35th) to record a fluent 4-0 victory.
Sunday's fixtures (semi-finals): St Stephen's vs St John's (10 a.m.) and St Kabir vs St Xavier's (11 a.m).
