Indians Jeev Milkha Singh and Jyoti Randhawa battled to a 72 for a share of 10th place on 139 with the Philippines, where Angelo Que and Mars Pucay failed to capitalise on their fast start with three birdies in four holes and settled for a 72 in the Omega Mission Hills World Cup on Friday. Jeev and Randhawa have their minds on the victims of the Mumbai attacks and hope to produce a solid weekend showing to raise some sporting cheers back home.
“We feel bad what's happened out there. Obviously we have been watching the news quite a bit,” said Jeev, who has captured the Asian Tour’s Order of Merit title this year.
Randhawa added: “I did feel for the people that for no rhyme or reason got injured. It does affect us a little bit. But what can you do? You're here to play and try to do the best you can.”
Team Japan and Korea kept up the Asian challenge with battling second rounds and insisted it was not an impossible mission to catch the leader, Spain.

Panchkula, November 28

Bangladesh's Mohd. Siddikur Rahman shares the third round lead along with Indians Rahul Ganapathy and Gaganjeet Bhullar at the HUDA-GTPL-Unitech Haryana Open at the Panchkula Golf Course here today. The trio of Rahman, Ganapathy and Bhullar are placed on top of the leaderboard with identical totals of four under 212. Among the three leaders, Rahman shot the best score on Friday, a three under 69. Kolkata's Rafick Ali Mollah and Chandigarh-based professional Harendra Gupta are one stroke behind the leaders in tied fourth.
Mohd. Siddikur Rahman (73, 70, 69), who has already registered a win on the PGTI this season, came into contention after shooting a solid 69 in round three. The professional from Dhaka did not begin his third round on the right note as he bogeyed the second and third holes. He then worked his way up the leaderboard by sinking birdies on the fifth, seventh, eighth, 10th and 11th. The 24-year-old followed up this flurry of birdies with a bogey and a birdie on the 14th and 16th respectively.
"My putting was quite good today as I was reading the greens much better than the previous two days. I will now look to play my own game tomorrow and not try to get ahead of myself. My best shot today was the third (lob wedge) on the par five eighth. I landed that shot 10 feet short of the pin," said Siddikur.
Rahul Ganapathy (68, 74, 70) stayed in the hunt on Friday as he made birdies on the fifth, sixth, eighth, 10th, 11th, 13th, 15th and bogeyed the first, fourth, seventh, ninth and 18th.
Ganapathy said, "I'm pretty satisfied with my effort today. I played really well as I sank seven birdies but at the same time made a few mistakes. The most disappointing moment for me was the three-putt from eight feet on the seventh, which resulted in a bogey. But the tournament is wide open because there is only two strokes between the top nine players."
Gaganjeet Bhullar (69, 71, 72) joined Rahman and Ganapathy as the joint leader. Bhullar sank birdies on the fifth, sixth, 15th, and dropped bogeys on the first, 16th and 18th.
Rafick Ali Mollah (72, 70, 71) and Harendra Gupta (74, 68, 71) are currently tied fourth at three under 213.
Mukesh Kumar, Chandigarh's Ajeetesh Sandhu, C Muniyappa and Sri Lankan B G Lalith Kumara are tied sixth at two under 214.
Harmeet Kahlon of Chandigarh, who registered a win in PGTI's 2006-07 season, currently lies tied 40th at seven over 223.

Jeev-Randhawa lying tied 12

DONGGUAN (CHINA), NOV 27

Asia’s challenge at the Omega Mission Hills World Cup endured a frustrating start with swirling winds blowing them off course in the first round on Thursday.
Japan’s Ryuji Imada and Toru Taniguchi emerged as the leading nation from the region after a six-under-par 66 in the opening fourball session left them four shots behind pacesetter Germany at Mission Hills Golf Club.
Indian duo Jyoti Randhawa and Jeev Milkha Singh, who has secured the Asian Tour’s Order of Merit title this season, combined for a 67 to lie in tied 12th place alongside the Philippines, represented by Angelo Que and Mars Pucay.
Lin Wen-tang, winner of last week’s UBS Hong Kong Open, and veteran Lu Wen-teh carded a 68 which was matched by Korea’s Bae Sang-moon and Kim Kyung-tae while China’s home heroes Liang Wen-chong and Zhang Lian-wei both found water on the last hole for a double bogey and signed for a disappointing 69.
“It was tough to swallow. I think we could have done better than that. We’ll take it as we’re not badly placed,” said Jeev Milkha Singh, winner of three tournaments in Asia, Japan and Europe this year.
Randhawa, Asia’s number one in 2002, got the Indians going with a birdie on the third hole but with gusty winds throwing teams off balance, they had to wait until the ninth for their second birdie of the round in the better ball format.
Jeev knocked in his first of the day on nine and went on to shoot two other birdies in quick succession before Randhawa wrapped up the day with his second birdie of the day on 15.
“We didn’t combine as well as we could have. Five under is not a great score but being bogey free was good,” said Randhawa. “We made birdies on the same holes. If we made birdies on different holes, that would have been great. We got over aggressive today. We tried to chip in and tried to make putts from 30 foot which you can’t do.”
First round scores (fourball): 62: Germany (Martin Kaymer, Alex Cejka). 63: Australia (Richard Green, Brendan Jones). 64: Canada (Graham Delaet, Wes Heffernan), USA (Ben Curtis, Brandt Snedeker), Spain (Miguel Angel Jimenez, Pablo Larrazabal. 65: New Zealand (Mark Brown, David Smail), Denmark (Soren Hansen, Anders Hansen), Ireland (Graeme McDowell, Paul McGinley), Sweden (Henrik Stenson, Robert Karlsson). 66: Japan (Ryuji Imada, Toru Taniguchi), Mexico (Daniel De Leon, Osca Serna).
67: India (Jeev Mikha Singh,Jyoti Randhawa), Chile (Felipe Aguilar, Mark Tullo), Portugal,(Tiago Cruz, Ricardo Santos), Philippines (Angelo Que, Mars Pucay). 68: France (Gregory Havret , Gregory Bourdy), Chinese Taipei (Lin Wen-tang,Lu Wen-teh), Korea (Bae Sang-moon, Kim Hyung-tae), Scotland (Alastair Forsyth, Colin Montgomerie). 69: Thailand (Prayad Marksaeng, Thongchai Jaidee), Wales (Bradley Dredge, Richard Johnson), England (Ian Poulter, Ross Fisher), Finland (Roope Kakko, Mikko Korhonen), Guatemala (Pablo Acuna, Alejandro Villavicencio), China (Liang Wen-chong, Zhang Lian-wei). 70: Italy (Francesco Molinari, Edoardo Molinari), South Africa (Rory Sabbatini, Richard Sterne) 71: Venezuela (Miguel Martinez, Rual Sanz).

Karanjit Singh Sandhu of Delhi returned a fantastic card of seven under 65 and in the process he shot into the lead and also set a course record at the end of second round of the HUDA-GTPL-Unitech Haryana Open. The Delhi professional was leading with a two days total of five under 139. He had carded 74 in the first round.
Mowh-based seasoned campaigner Mukesh Kumar and Gaganjeet Bhullar of Kapurthala shot scores of one under 71 to be tied second at four under 140. The cut was applied at six over 150.
Karanjit Singh Sandhu birdied on the 11th, 15th, 16th, 17th to make the turn at four under. Another birdie on the second took his score to five under. He then missed a chip-putt from the edge of the green on the par three fourth to register his first and last bogey of the day.
Sandhu sank an eagle on the par five eighth when his second shot (3 iron), helped by a good bounce came up just four feet short of the hole. The 27-year-old closed with a birdie on the ninth where he sank a 20 feet putt.
"I had a satisfying round today as I read the greens much better than yesterday and did not have a single three-putt. One needs to figure out the greens pretty quickly in order to play well on this course," said Sandhu.
He added, "I hit the ball very close and did not leave too many long putts for myself. The eagle on the eighth was a result of a great second shot which ended up four feet short of the pin. I'm now feeling very good about my game."
Mukesh Kumar (69, 71) made a promising start to his second round when he sank birdies on the 11th and 12th. He then three-putted on the 14th to concede a bogey. Mukesh birdied the 15th to make the turn at two under. A couple of more three-putts resulted in a bogey on the first and a double bogey on the second. The PGTI Order of Merit leader then pulled back two strokes as he sank birdies on the fifth and seventh.
Mukesh, who currently trails Sandhu by one stroke, said, "I performed very poorly with the putter today. The pin positions were not very difficult but I had trouble reading the greens. I made too many three-putts."
Gaganjeet Bhullar (69, 71) fired birdies on the 17th, 18th, first and dropped bogeys on the 10th, 13th and eighth to join Mukesh in tied second. With ball frequently moving from one end to the other saw Sacred Heart again taking the lead through Arshjot. In a counter-attack Carmel Convent were awarded a spot kick which Meghna smartly converted it to again put her team at par. With few minutes from close Carmel Convent snatched the match-winner.
