Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister M.S. Gill today announced that Sonipat situated Northern Regional Centre of Sports Authority of India would be developed as wrestling hub. He also announced to provide more facilities of hostel and medical care in this centre.
Mr. Gill, who was speaking after inaugurating astro turf laid at a cost of Rs. 2.38 crore at Regional Centre Sonipat, said that Haryana was the home for wrestling talents. It had produced a number of world class wrestlers who brought laurels not only to the State but also to the Nation as a whole. Given the fact, the regional centre Sonipat would be developed as wrestling hub.
He assured that Haryana's all aspirations concerning sports would be fulfilled. He was all praise for Haryana's sports talents,particularly wrestlers and boxers. Haryana ranked first in the country in the field of boxing, he added.
Dr. Gill said that an ultramodern lab for drug test had been set up at Delhi and approval for this lab had been taken from the World Anti Doping Authority. Now neighbouring countries of India could also avail the services of this lab. Western countries like Sweden had also expressed its desire to take the services of this lab, he added.
He said that a sum of Rs. 678 crore was being spent by the Government of India on grooming sports talent in the country. Services of skilled coaches would be made available to sports persons. As many as 500 new coaches would be appointed and honorarium of contractive coaches would be increased.
