CHANDIGARH, SEPT 9
Former president of the Wrestling Federation of India Dr Mahinder Singh Malik has requested Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to direct the Sports Authority of India to depute its coaches at the Ch. Bharat Singh Memorial Sports School, Nidani, District Jind (Haryana).
In a letter to the Prime Minister Mr Manmohan Singh, former Director General of Police, Haryana, Dr Malik said “ Ch. Bharat Singh Memorial Sports School, Nidani, has attained excellence in the field of sports both at the national and international level particularly in rural sports i.e. kabaddi, hockey, volleyball, athletics, wrestling, basketball etc. Suddenly the rapid progress of the school in the field of sports has since been deterred due to non availability of coaches/experts of Sports Authority of India.
“In view of the above facts it is once again requested that you may kindly issue directions to the Sports Authority of India for posting of coaches of the concerned games i.e. kabaddi, hockey, volleyball, athletics, wrestling and basketball etc. in the school in the interest of development of sports which is a matter of paramount public importance.”
Dr Malik said that SAI had contributed in developing sports infrastructure at the Nidani Sports School which has produced more than 150 international wrestlers who have brought laurels to the country by winning medals at different levels. It is one of the excellence of sports centres in the country. However, without NIS qualified coaches, the Nidani sports school is suffering a lot.
