It was virtually a massacre of innocents as St Stephen's School-45 handed out a 10-wicket drubbing to DAV School, Sector 15 in the 6th Molly Carver Memorial Cricket Tournament for High Schools at the St Stephen's School ground in Togan today.
Set to score 79 runs for victory, St Stephen's School achived it in just 5.4 overs without any loss. The DAV bowlers in wayward in their direction as in the first over itself they gave 35 overs. There were lot of wide deliveries. Openers Jagpreet Singh (24) and Gurranaq (19) were associated in an unbroken 43-run first wicket partnership. Mr Extras contributed 36 runs.
Earlier, DAV-15 batted first and were bowled out for 78 in 32.1 overs. Anubhav Nandan (14) and Abhishek Thakur (20) were their main scorers. Stephen's medium pacer Jagpreet Singh (3 for 10) and right arm off spinner Abilash Sharma (3 for 16) restricted DAV's total. Gaurav Singh chipped in with 2 for 23. Stephen's wicket-keeper Shivam Bhardwaj took four sharp catches.
At the St Stephen's School stadium in Togan, DAV Senior Secondary School-8 defeated Government Model School-35 by 29 runs. DAVSSS-8 batted first and posted 172 all out in 38.2 overs. Harpreet Singh (25, 4x4s) and top scorer Arvind (68, 11x4s) were associated in a 72-run partnership for the second wicket. Rahul contributed 30 with the help of five boundaries and Yudhvir made 21.
For Govt Model-35, Pushkar (2 for 423), Chetan (2 for 26), Megha (2 for 22) and Saurav Singh (2 for 31) were the main wicket-takers.
In reply, Govt Model-35 were dismissed for 143 in 36 overs. The highlight of their innings was a 57-run partnership for the sixth wicket between Megha (59, 9x4s, 1x6) and Parvinder Singh (24. 4x4s). However, this partnership was not enough to extricate their team from the jaws of defeat. Avnit made 15.
It was left arm medium pacer Raman Bishnoi who broke the backbone of Govt Model-35 by talking five wickets for 33 runs. Arvind gave him full support as he bagged 3 for 28.
