CHANDIGARH, SEPT 2
Vivek High School, Sector 38 and Sacred Heart, Sector 26 qualified for the four-team super league in the Chandigarh Sub-Junior Girls Football Tournament for Dr KC Bhargava Trophy which commenced today at the St Stephen's School ground in Sector 45 here today. Organised by the Chandigarh Football Association, Vivek High School blanked Saupin's School, Sector 32 by 4-0 while Sacred Heart also registered an identical 4-0 verdict against Mount Carmel of Sector 47 in the matches played on the opening day of the four-day tournament.
In the first match between Vivek High School and Saupin School, the former were surely displayed better technique and skills as they outplyed their rivals in all departments of the game. Arushi was the star performer for the winners as she outwitted twice the Saupin's defence to score in the first and 43rd minutes. Shaira Bedi and Suchint added one goal each by netting in the 37th and 47th minutes, respectively.
Prerna spearheaded the attack for Sacred Heart against Mount Carmel. Spirited Prerna dealt two big jolts to their opponents by booting home goals in the 13th and 40th minutes. Sahiba had earlier given their team lead with a goal in the 10th minute. In between Somya got one goal in the 33rd minute to increase the victory margin for Sacred Heart.
Tomorrow, in the four-team super league, runners-up St Stephen's School will cross swords with Vivek High School, Sector 38 at 10 a.m. while Sacred Heart are scheduled to meet defending champions Carmel Convent of Sector 9 at 11 a.m.
