JALANDHAR, AUG 29
Philore Block won the overall trophy in the Jalandhar District Rural Sports Games organized by the Punjab Sports Department. The three-day rural meet was conducted in collaboration with Sports Authority of India on the birthday of hockey legend Maj Dhyan Chand.
Philore won a cash prize of Rs. 40,000 and a trophy. Adampur Block got second place who received a cheque of Rs. 24,000 and Jalandhar East got third place and won Rs. 8,000 and a trophy.
Deputy Commissioner Priyank Bharti was the chief guest. He inspired the participants to play sports along with their education. Punjab Sports Director Padma Shree Pargat Singh was also present. The other personalities present on the occasion were Hazari Lal Sharma, Deputy Director Sports, Jalandhar Division, Amrik Singh, District Sports Officer, Jalandhar and all the sarpanches of Jalandhar. The Department also distributed sports equipment to 56 panchayats.
In hockey Jalandhar East won the gold medal by defeating Lohian Khaas where as Rurka Kalan outplayed Block Nakodar for the third place. In kabaddi boys Nakodar defeated Shahkot and in girls Phillore beat Jalandhar West. The winners teams will participate in the coming Punjab State Rural Games to be held at Ferozepore from October 18 to 20.
