Shaurya and Sezal bag titles in Mehta Memorial TT

CHANDIGARH, AUG 6

Shaurya Gupta of St Anne’s and Sezal Gupta of Manav Mangal Smart School won the kids boys and girls singles titles, respectively, in the Prof RS Mehta Memorial Invitational Table Tennis Tournament at the Sector 23 Table Tennis Hall here today.

Down by a game, Sezal Gupta hit back with vengeance to beat Shubhangi of Delhi Public School, Sector 40 in the kid girls Under-10 final. Sezal won 9-11, 12-10, 11-9, 11-7. Earlier in semi-finals, Shubhangi defeated Vibhuti of The Gurukul by 11-0, 11-2, 11-3 and Sezal account for Anoushka of Sacred Heart, Sector 26 by 11-8, 12-10, 11-3.

In the kid boys final, Shaurya Gupta proved a better player as he outplayed Barbrik of Patiala by 11-5, 11-3, 11-5. Earlier, Barbrik struggled to prevail of Sahil of Ryan International by 9-11, 11-3, 14-12, 11-8 in the semi-final match. In the second semi-final, Shaurya beat Paras of Gurgaon by 11-7, 11-6, 11-7.

A large number of entries from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal and Chandigarh have been received in the tournament which began 31 year ago in memory of profession Mehta.
