Shivalik Punjab School of Mohali claimed the 9th SN Vohra Junior Hockey Tournament after getting the better of Surjit Hockey Academy of Jalandhar by 3-1 in the final played at the Sector 42 Hockey Stadium here today.
Both teams were evenly balanced. However, the Shivalik Public School Academy boys capitalized on most of the chances which came their way. Sahil hogged the limelight as he performed hat-trick to fashion Shivalik Pubic School Academy’s victory.
The ebullient right winger of Shivalik Academy opened his and his team’s account in the 16th minute. Shivalik Academy kept the slender lead intact in the first half.
Immediately after change of ends, Surjit Hockey Academy hit back and neutralized the lead through Amritpal Singh in the 37th minute.
Sahil completed his hat-trick in the second session as he gave Shivalik Academy the lead again in the 62nd minute Shivalik Academy put their seal of authority in the 69th minute through Sahil who scored his third goal.
The winners were presented a cash award of Rs 15,000 and runners-up team Rs 10,000.
Chief Punjab Parliamentary Secratary PWD (B&R) Deshraj Dhugga gave away the prizes to the winners and runners up team.
Harinder Singh of Surjit Academy, Jalandhar was declared the best goalkeeper and Gursewak Sigh Jr. Shivalik Hockey Academy, Mohali the best fullback. Pardeep Singh of Surjit Academy, Jalandhar was voted the best half and Sahil Dabas of Shivalik Public School emerged the best forward. Each was give a cash award of Rs 500.
M.B.C Trust Bassi Patahana, Fathegarh Sahib, was adjudged the most well behaved team.
