CHANDIGARH, OCT 5
More than 1800 players from all over the state will stake their claims for the top honours in the Punjab State Women Games being organised by the Punjab Sports Department at the Polo Ground in Patiala from October 19 to 22.
Giving this information here today, Punjab Sports Director Padam Shree Pargat Singh said that competitions would be conducted in athletics, basketball, badminton, gymnastics, hockey, handball, kho-kho, table tennis, lawn tennis, swimming, volleyball and kabaddi.
A sum of Rs five lakh would be disbursed among the medal winners. Gold medalist will get Rs 2000, silver medalist Rs 1200 and bronze medalist Rs 800.
The Punjab Sports Department is regularly organising these competitions which were introduced in 1975 on the International Women's Day,
Olympian Pargat Singh said that the selected players would attend coaching camp to prepare the state teams for participation in the Sports Authority of India organised National competitions in four groups.
Meanwhile, all arrangements have been completed to smoothly organise the games.
