Expansion of Scouting and Guiding Scheme

Under the Scheme of Scouting and Guiding, financial assistance is provided for various activities such as organization of scouting and guiding camps, training programmes, National integration, preservation of cultural heritage, monitoring and evaluation of Scouting and Guiding activities. At present there is no proposal under consideration to expand the Scouting and Guiding Scheme.
This was stated by Mr Ajay Maken, Minister of State (I/C) for Youth Affairs & Sports, in the Lok Sabha today, in a written reply to a question by Mr Kachhadia Naranbhai and Mrs Jyoti Dhurve.
The Minister further said that an amount of Rs.12.50crores have been earmarked during the 11th Five Year Plan for selected activities of Scouting and Guiding. Under the Scheme funds are provided only to the National Headquarter of Bharat Scouts & Guides on year to year basis. No financial assistance is being provided for Scouting and Guiding at State level.
Rs.1.80 crore,Rs.1.50 crore and Rs.2.00 crore were released during the year 2008-09, 2009-10 and 2010-11 respectively to Bharat Scouts & Guides. No funds have so far been released during the current financial year due to non- receipt of utilization certificate, Audited Statement of Accounts, Performance Reports, the Sports Minister added.
