GURGAON, SEPT 30

Anirban Lahiri (68-68-74) put up a gritty performance to post a 74 on the toughest day for scoring at the DLF Golf & Country Club this week. The 24-year-old, eyeing his maiden DLF Masters crown, held on to his overnight lead as he fired two birdies against four bogeys in round three. His birdies came on the 14th and 18th. While on the 14th he converted a 25 feet putt, on the 18th he landed his third shot within six feet of the flag.
Lahiri said, “It was a tough day for scoring as it was not easy to judge the direction of the wind. The pin positions were also quite challenging today. One needed a really special effort to shoot an under par score.
“I didn’t hit it as well as I would’ve liked to. However, I hold a two-stroke advantage at the moment and I need to putt well in the final round to capitalize on it. I’ll focus on hitting more greens in regulation and hitting it closer to the hole in round four in order to maximize the birdie opportunities.”
Himmat Singh Rai (72-69-71) climbed from tied fourth to second position as he came up with a 71 at his home course on Friday. Himmat had three birdies and two bogeys in the third round.
Sanjay Kumar (72-69-72) of Lucknow returned an even par 72 to be placed third at three under 213 while Jyoti Randhawa (67-71-76) slipped from second to joint fourth after producing a 76 on day three.
Deepinder Singh Kullar (70-69-75) of the DLF Golf & Country Club shares fourth place along with Randhawa at two under 214. Kullar was in the joint lead at one stage during round three but slipped as a result of dropping four strokes on the last four holes.
Gaurav Pratap Singh’s 66 was the best score of the day. It propelled him from overnight tied 42nd to tied sixth. He registered seven birdies and a bogey in round three.
SSP Chowrasia and defending champion Ashok Kumar share sixth place along with Gaurav Pratap Singh at one under 215. Ashok shot a 69 on Friday and Chowrasia posted a 73.

Salgoacar crush East Bengal 3-1 to win Federation Cup

by sporswire4u.blogspot.com
KOLKATA,  SEPT 29
Salgaocar SC thrash defending champion Kingfisher East Bengal 3-1 to claim the 33rd Federation Cup after the gap of 14 years at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata. It was Chidi Edeh who scored the first goal for Salgaocar in 4th minute and was followed by Francis Fernandes in 19thand Ryuji Sueoka in 66th minute. Alan Gow pulled one back for the Kolkata giants after converting a spot.
With this fourth Federation Cup title Goan outfit has become the first non-Kolkata club to win the premier domestic cup competition in Indian football since Mahindra United in 2005.Salgaocar coach Karim Bencherifa made four changes to the starting lineup, While Trevor Morgan took a gamble to start with Mehtab Hussain and Raju Gaikwad, Robin Singh also returned from suspension to partner Alan Gow upfront while leaving Tolgay Ozbey to cool heals. The much anticipated match started with both the teams taking attacking posture but it was Salgaocar who drew the first blood with Chidi Edeh scoring through a header on a perfect cross from Junior Elija. In the 8th minute Morgan’s decision to include Mehtab backfired when he had to be replaced by Sanju Pradhan. In the 11th minute red and gold brigade came very close to equalise when Robin Singh passed a cross to into the box to Alan Gow to which he couldn’t contact.
The Goan giants doubled their lead in the 19th minute when Francis Fernandes got behind the East Bengal defence and tried to score but couldn’t get past Sandip Nandy, who saved Francis’ first shot but on a rebound Francis put the ball in the net to stun the crowd in the stadium.
In the 26th minute East Bengal scored their first goal through a spot converted by Alan Gow. Who send diving Karanji to wrong side. After first goal East Bengal tried to get back in the latter half of the first period but Robin Singh wasted a golden opportunity when he failed to connect to a low cross from Saumik Dey.
In the second half Trevor Morgan replaced Penn Orji with Tolgay Ozbey while Bencherifa made a double substitution at the hour mark as Ryuji Sueoka replaced Junior while Gilbert Oliveira came on for Ishfaq Ahmed.
The gamble took by Bencherifa to introduce Sueoka paid dividend when he netted third goal in the  66th minute in the back of an empty net after Sandip failed to collect a low cross from Chidi. Hence crushing any chance for the Kolkatan side to make a comeback in the match.
Though East Bengal dominated possession in the dying hours of the match but couldn’t comeback as Salgaocar held on to a 3-1 victory to win their first Federation Cup since 1997. And for East Bengal what remained was the story of  ‘missed chance and lost opportunity’.
The winner Salgaocar receive Trophy and Rs 25 lakh as a prize money while runner up Kingfisher East Bengal had to contend with Rs 15 lakh as a prize money.

CF Academy face Sambalpur FA in final

 by sportswire4u.blogspot.com (Balbir)
CHANDIGARH, SEPT 28
An additional time goal by Mohit helped Chandigarh Football Academy rally to end the challenge of Sahayatri Football Academy of Howrah (Kolkata) by 2-1 in the semi-final of the 9th Administrator’s Challenge Cup All India Football Tournament (Under-17) at the 17 Football Training Centre here today.
Local favourites CF Academy will now meet Sambalpur Football Academy of Orissa in the title-clash tomorrow. Sambalpur Football Academy overcame a stiff resistance from Indian Football Association of Kolkata by an identical 2-1 margin in the first semi-final match.
Earlier, the Organising Committee Disciplinary Committee scratched Rurka Kala Football Academy of Punjab on the charges of impersonation/falsification. Coach of the Chandigarh Football Association Harjinder Singh has alleged that four Rurka Kalan Academy players – Badshah Khan, Vishal Kumar, Simranjeet and Jagjeet--- were participation  under false names.
The Disciplinary Committee upheld the protest of Harjinder Singh debarred Rurka Kalan Football Academy (Rurka Kalan Youth Club) from participation in the tournament. Rurka Kalan had yesterday qualified for semi-final.
Sahayatri Football Academy had to blame themselves for missing the bus for the final spot as they frittered away more than half a dozen open chances to score. Their main culprit was Narhari Shreshta who was totally off colour and wasted five open goals.
In the seventh minute, Chattu Mondal gave a through pass to Narhari Shreshta in the penalty area of Chandigarh Football Academy. However, Narhari kicked the ball straight into the waiting hands of CFA goalkeeper Zothan  Mawia. CFA were again lucky in the 15th minute Sushanta Ssrkar unleashed a powerful shot from the right flan but the ball hit cross-bar.
After few minutes, Narhari Shreshtra headed the ball off the target while CFA custodian Zonathan Mawia was not positioned in the goal.
CFA tested the Sahayatri Football Academy in the 26th minute but Mohit’s drive from 12 yards went off the target. Two minutes later Milan Roy gave a defence-splitting pass to Narhari Shreshtra who again missed an opportunity to put his team ahead.
Maintaining their pressure, the Kolkata team’s efforts bore fruits. They drew the first blood in the 29th minute Sushanta Sardar scored from the right flank as the ball went into the far corner of the goal. Sahasyatri FA led 1-0 at half time.
Sahayatri goalkeeper Souvik Samtra made a brilliant save by thwarting the efforts of Samuel  in the 54th minute. Subroto Mondal of Sahayatri FA got yellow card in the 58th minute. It was his second yellow card which means that he would have to miss the match against IFA tomorrow for the third and fourth places.
The local outfit, a venute of the Chandigarh Administration, restored parity in the 78th minute when Vikram took the  ball from the left flank and after getting the better of Sahayatri medio  Firoz Ali before unleashing a long range shot which went right corner of their opponents goal while Sahayatri FA goalkeeper Souvik Samtra had advanced to collect the ball.
Just before seconds from the close of end Mohit snatched the winning goal for Chandigarh Football Academy.
Earlier, Indian Football Academy ousted IFA. IFA took the lead in the 8th minute. Dipu Burman gave a through pass to left winger Suken Bag who gave a minus pas to Maink Deb whose poiwerful drive beat Sambalpur FA custodian  Md Tajuddin.
Down by a goal, Sambalpur FA lads started putting pressure and in the 44th minute IFA goalkeeper Tanumay Dass took more than six seconds to release the ball from his hands. Referee Arun Kumar awarded an indirect kick for the infringement. S Pritam Singh took the indirect kick. IFA defender  Sanjib Biswas while trying to clear the ball with header. The ball gained height and crossed the goalline.
The teams shared two goals at half time. Sambalpur FA had a chance to score in the 52nd minute. When Laxman Murmur gave a loafted cross in the penalty area where Sawan Maridi took a header which was grabbed by IFA goalkeeper Tanumay Das.
Three minutes later Sambalpur FA got the winning goal. Medio Deepak Oram sent a loafted ball to Gora Chand Marndi who made not mistake by scoring from a narrow angle.
Tomorrow’s fixtures: For third and fourth places: Sahayatrai FA vs  IFA Kolkata (10 a.m.) at Sector 42 Football Ground.
Chandigarh Football Academy vs Sambalpur Football Academy (2.30 p.m) at Sector 17 Football Training Centre.

Rurka Kalan Youth Club scratched, face ban

by sportswire4u.blogspot.com (Balbir)
CHANDIGARH, SEPT 28
Rurka Kalan Youth Club of Punjab and its officials taking part in the 9th Administrator’s Challenge Cup All India Football Tournament (Under-17) may face six months to one-year ban from football activities of the All India Football Federation (AIFF), including participation in tournaments sanctioned by the federation/state associations on the allegations of impersonation and falsification.
The organizing committee has scratched this team which had entered semi-finals. Their place was given to the next top team in Group B Indian Football Association, Kolkata which lost to Sambalpur Football Academy of Orissa by 2-1 in the semi-final.
Match Commissioner and secretary general Rakesh Bakshi did not give any comment except saying that he would be submitting his report in this case to the AIFF.
Quoting AIFF Disciplinary Committee clause 58, Rakesh Bakshi said “falsification of documents or impersonation will invite action against the team/players and officials. If found involved they may face six months to one-year suspension from all AIFF sports activities. They may also be slapped a fine of Rs 20,000.”
Chandigarh Football Academy, a venture of the Chandigah Administration, coach Harjinder Singh has protested against Rurka Kalan Youth Club alleging impersonation/falsification of documents. In his written protest Harjinder Singh had alleged that four Rurka Kalan Youth Club Badshah Khan, Vishal Kumar, Simarjeet and Jagjeet are not the real names of Rurka Kalan Youth Club team players.
According to complaint given to the organizing committee, Badshah Khan was playing in the name of Manjeet Singh. His actual name is Lovpreet Ghai who was earlier a trainee of Chandigah Football Academy. Vishal Kumar’s name is reported to be Sandeep Kumar while Simarjeet’s real name is Narinderjit Singh. Jagjeet, son of Manjit is Jagjit, son of Sukhjinder Singh is the fourth impersonation case.
The Discipliary Committee, comprising Chandigah Joint Director Sports Dr JPS Sidhu, District Sports Officer KS Bharti, Match Commissioner Rakesh Bakshi, Referees Assesser IP Nagi and Chandigarh Football Association official Amrik Singh. The panel discussed the issue and found the protest correct. Consequently, Rurka Kalan Youth Club was scratched from further participation in the ongoing Administrator’s Challenge Cup.
However, timing of the protest has raised many eyebrows. The medical test and group photos of participating teams were done by the Organising Committee. If Lovepreet, alias Badhshah Khan alias Manjeet Singh was earlier a trainee of CFA, it should have been pointed out on the day Rurka Kalan Youth Club had played their first match in the tournament. They had played three matches to top their pool and the Chandigarh Football Academy officials were sitting on the issue.
It is alleged that the CFA officials became worried only after the Punjab team had qualified for semifinals and CFA officials felt Rurka Kalan Youth Club may pose a serious challenge to their aspirations to win the title.
A thorough probe is needed to bring out the truth.
