Hindus urge Vatican to wake-up & respect Catholics’ viewpoint of women ordination

 by sportswire4u.blogspot.com
NEVADA (USA), APRIL 29
Hindus have urged Vatican to wake-up to the feelings of its congregations and reconsider favorably the ordination of women priests in Roman Catholic Church.
A recent research study on “Contemporary Catholic Perspectives” commissioned by the Association of Catholic Priests in Ireland to “gain an understanding of Catholic’s views on contemporary Catholicism”, found out that “over 7 in 10 (72%) favour women being ordained into the Catholic Church as priests.”
Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that Holy See should conduct a referendum with its congregations worldwide to learn about the feelings of Roman Catholics on the subject of ordination of women.
Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, pointed out that women could disseminate God’s message as skillfully as men and deserved equal and full participation and access in religion.
Rajan Zed further said that as women were equal partners in the society, so they should be equal partners in the religion also. He urged Vatican to be more kind to Roman Catholic women as exclusion of women from religious services, just because they were female, was very unfair and ungodly.
Quoting Hindu scriptures, Zed says: Where women are honored, there the gods are pleased. Men and women are equal in the eyes of God and religions should respect that, Zed stresses and adds that time has now come for the women priests and bishops.
Rajan Zed suggested that theologians and canonists of the Church needed to address this issue urgently; re-evaluate Church doctrine, theology, male hierarchy and history; and give women a chance. Women should be ordained to priesthood and should perform the same functions as male priests. Treating women as not equal to men was clearly a case of discrimination promoting gender inequality.
Church’s Cannon Law 1024 says—Only a baptized man validly receives sacred ordination.
Zed noted that there had been, however, some positive signs regarding status of women in Roman Catholic Church as Vatican invited women to participate in the Synod of Bishops in 2010 and 2008 and girls outnumbered boys for the first time at the altar servers gathering in Vatican in 2010, where about 60 percent of young pilgrims were reportedly female. Holy See being the largest religious organization in the world should show exemplary leadership in women equality to the rest of the planet, Zed stated.
Rajan Zed argued that reprimanding of the US Catholic nuns’ group, Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR), founded in 1956, by Vatican for reportedly raising the subject of ordination of women and other issues was unfortunate. Mission of LCWR, an association of the leaders of congregations of Catholic women religious in USA, included “fostering dialogue and collaboration among religious congregations”, “developing models for initiating and strengthening relationships with groups concerned with the needs of society”, etc.
Roman Catholic Church, largest of the Christian denominations with about 1.2 billion adherents, is headed by His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI and headquartered in Vatican. Hinduism, oldest and third largest religion of the world, has about one billion adherents and moksh (liberation) is its ultimate goal.
Objectives of Association of Catholic Priests of Ireland includes "Providing a voice for Irish Catholic priests at a time when that voice is largely silent and needs to be expressed."

Salgaocar scrape past Chirag Kerala

 by sportswire4u.blogspot.com
MARGAON, APRIL 29
Salgaocar SC scraped past Chirag United Kerala 1-0 in an I-League match at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda on Sunday (April 29). Salgaocar captain Luciano Sabrosa made the difference between the two teams in the 30th minute.
Despite dominating for most part of the match, Salgaocar were not able to translate their domination into goals and were lucky not to share the spoils as Chirag United Kerala came within a whisker of snatching a draw late in the match.
The win helped Salgaocar stay within reach of a second spot but much will depend on the other results, notably of teams ahead of them which include Churchill Brothers, Mohun Bagan and East Bengal. Salgaocar have 43 points in their kitty from 25 matches. Chirag United, who are already relegated to the second division of the I-League, remain on 17 points from 25 matches.
Salgaocar who dictated terms in the midfield had the better share of exchanges and surged ahead in the 30th minute. Man-of-the-Match Ryuji Sueoka, who played a pivotal role, accepted a ball inside the box, beat a couple of rival defenders and laid a pass to an unmarked Luciano who slotted the ball into the net from close.
Salgaocar had chances to kill the match in the second session but Ryuji, Beevan D’mello and Milagres Gonsalves all failed to convert.

Hindus-Jews-Buddhists condemn Gypsy families’ eviction in Belgrade

Religious leaders from left to right are—Buddhist Jikai’ Phil Bryan, Hindu Rajan Zed and Jewish ElizaBeth W. Beyer.
 by sportswire4u.blogspot.com
NEVADA (USA), APRIL 28
Hindus-Jews-Buddhists have strongly condemned reported forcible eviction of Roma (Gypsy) families in Belgrade, the Serbian capital.
Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, Rabbi ElizaBeth W. Beyer and Reverend Jikai’ Phil Bryan; prominent Hindu, Jewish and Buddhist leaders respectively in Nevada  (USA); issued  a joint statement in Nevada today, saying that it is morally wrong to force families out of the homes that they have lived in for years. These affected Roma families were reportedly being moved to segregated metal container settlements outside city of Belgrade, which likely do not meet international housing standards.
Rajan Zed, President of Universal Society of Hinduism, Rabbi Beyer and Rev. Bryan urged the European Union to intervene and stop mistreatment of helpless Roma families. Roma rights should be respected, and, they should be provided compensation for the destruction of their homes which they were forced to leave.
Hindu, Jewish and Buddhist leaders argued that Republic of Serbia needed to do more for its frequently maltreated Roma populace who reportedly continued to suffer from discrimination.  Faith leaders say that Serbia and Belgrade officials must provide permanent housing solutions so that the Roma can raise their families with dignity. Eviction of Roma people appears to have become part of Belgrade's official stance and this is not the first time it has enforced its policy.  Roma have been in the Balkans since 13th century and according to an estimate, number up to around 800,000.
Rajan Zed points out that many in this disenfranchised community reportedly live in Serbia in abject poverty in settlements, lacking basic services, such as plumbing and electricity. Roma face problems in accessing the healthcare system and education and there is an apparent lack of interest in resolving their issues. They are viewed as “others” and treated as lower class. Many Roma children do not attend school and those who do often face segregated schooling, reports suggest.
Rajan Zed, Rabbi ElizaBeth Beyer and Rev. Phil Bryan urged Serbian President Boris Tadic and Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic to craft a well-defined, tangible policies focusing on health, education, housing, and employment to stop the cycle of poverty and discrimination.  Serbia also need to urgently address the issue of statelessness of its many Roma people who reportedly do not have identity cards and birth records and thus suffer rejection day after day, they add.
These faith leaders also requested His Holiness Patriarch Irinej Gavrilovic of majority Serbian Orthodox Church to come to the rescue of the Serbian Roma. Rather than marginalizing Roma, this country which has so much to offer to the international community, should be more embracing of Roma brothers and sisters and work for their upliftment, Rajan Zed stated.
